Safety at TZA Group
Safety is not a program. It is how we operate every day — on every load, on every road.
We Run Safe or We Don't Run.
At TZA Group, safety is built into every part of our operation — not added on top of it. We hire qualified drivers, maintain our equipment proactively, follow FMCSA regulations without shortcuts, and hold our team accountable to the same standards on every run.
We do not pressure drivers to violate hours of service rules, skip inspections, or push through unsafe conditions. When the road is not safe to run, we don't run it. That is not a policy — it is a standard.
Qualified Drivers Only
Every TZA Group driver holds a valid CDL Class A license and meets all FMCSA driver qualification requirements before operating any vehicle. This includes a current DOT medical certificate, a clean motor vehicle record review, and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
We verify employment history and check the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse for all new hires. Drivers with disqualifying violations are not hired. Drivers who develop disqualifying conditions during employment are removed from service.
- Valid CDL Class A required
- Current DOT medical certificate
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
- MVR review before hire and periodically thereafter
- FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query on all new hires
HOS Compliance — No Exceptions
TZA Group operates ELD-equipped trucks on all units in compliance with FMCSA electronic logging device requirements. Hours of service rules are followed on every run — no falsified logs, no pressure to drive beyond legal limits.
Dispatch plans loads with legal drive time in mind. If a load cannot be delivered legally within available hours, we communicate with the shipper or receiver — we do not ask drivers to violate HOS to make a window.
- ELD-equipped trucks on all units
- 11-hour driving / 14-hour on-duty limits enforced
- 30-minute rest break compliance
- 70-hour / 8-day cycle tracking
- No pressure to falsify logs or exceed limits
Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections
Every TZA Group driver completes a thorough pre-trip inspection before every dispatch and a post-trip inspection at the end of every run. These are not checkbox exercises — they are the first line of defense against mechanical failures on the road.
Defects identified during inspection are reported immediately and addressed before the vehicle is dispatched again. We do not send out trucks with known defects. Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) are maintained in compliance with FMCSA requirements.
- FMCSA-compliant pre-trip inspection before every dispatch
- Post-trip inspection and DVIR at end of every run
- Defects reported and resolved before next dispatch
- Tires, brakes, lights, coupling, and cargo securement checked
- DVIR records maintained per FMCSA requirements
Freight Secured to FMCSA Standards
All freight hauled by TZA Group is secured in accordance with FMCSA cargo securement regulations (49 CFR Part 393). Drivers verify that cargo is properly loaded, blocked, braced, and tied down before departure and check securement during transit as required.
We haul 53-foot dry-van freight only. Enclosed trailers provide inherent protection from road debris and weather. Drivers are trained to identify and report improperly loaded freight before accepting a load.
- Cargo securement per 49 CFR Part 393
- Pre-departure securement check on every load
- In-transit securement checks as required by regulation
- Drivers trained to identify and refuse improperly loaded freight
- 53-foot enclosed dry-van trailers on all loads
We Don't Push Through Unsafe Conditions
TZA Group drivers are expected to use professional judgment when road or weather conditions become unsafe. Drivers have the authority — and the obligation — to slow down, pull over, or stop when conditions require it. No load is worth a preventable accident.
Dispatch monitors weather and road conditions on active loads and communicates proactively with drivers. Shippers and receivers are notified of delays caused by weather or unsafe conditions. We do not ask drivers to run through conditions they have assessed as unsafe.
- Drivers have authority to stop in unsafe conditions
- Dispatch monitors weather on active loads
- Shippers and receivers notified of weather-related delays
- Speed adjusted for road and weather conditions
- No pressure to run through conditions drivers assess as unsafe
Zero Tolerance Drug & Alcohol Policy
TZA Group maintains a strict zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy in full compliance with FMCSA regulations (49 CFR Part 382). All drivers are subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing as required.
Any driver who tests positive, refuses to test, or is found to be in violation of our drug and alcohol policy is immediately removed from safety-sensitive functions. We participate in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- Random testing program per FMCSA requirements
- Post-accident testing as required
- Reasonable suspicion testing
- FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse participation
- Immediate removal from service for violations
Maintained Equipment Is Safe Equipment
TZA Group operates 2025 and newer Volvo VNL and Freightliner Cascadia trucks — both equipped with advanced active safety systems including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Modern equipment is a safety investment, not just a preference.
All trucks and trailers follow a proactive preventive maintenance schedule. Oil changes, brake inspections, tire checks, and DOT compliance reviews are performed on schedule. Trucks with known defects are taken out of service until repaired — no deferred maintenance on safety-critical components.
